A girl from Japan asked me how she is expected to respond to 'whats up'. Another piece of our slang.
It can get frustrating not being able to read.
Last week I tried to make pudding with two pudding mixes from boxes. It was for bible study. I couldn't read the directions, and it was so soupy. So I threw it in the freezer & made something else.
This week I made enchilada for bible study, which calls for green chiles. I couldn't find green chiles, so I bought what looked to be the closest thing. I cut them, and decided to cook them because they smelled a little bit hot. It got in the air and everyone in the apartment coughed for about 3 hours because the smell was so strong that it burned your throat. So I didn't even put half of them in the enchilada. As it turns out, I bought the strongest jalapeno peppers you can buy! They still ate it though, and most had seconds. A girl from Korea thought it wasn't hot at all. I didn't think it was any hotter than a Mexican restaurant.
As for the frozen pudding, they put that on ice cream & had milk shakes. Another American said it tasted like a fudge sickle!
Never take English labels for granted!
