Edinburgh, Scotland The Edinburgh Castle sits on a hill overlooking the city.
The canon shooting at Edinburgh Castle was really loud!
We toured the Britannia. It was used by the Queen in Wales during the 1950-1990's. Princess Diana & Prince Charles honeymooned on the ship, President Raegan & President Clinton & thier wives stayed on board.
The Abbey ruins outside the Holyroodhouse Palace. It took 300 years to build it, starting in the 1100's. Then anit-Catholics attacked it, then the ceiling caved in, when it was abandoned.
The left side it much newer than the right side, as there is even architectural differences when you look close.
Palace of Holyroodhouse was built in the 1600's, & renovated & added on to in the 1700's. The left side has much older coloring than the right. The Queen still stays here in the summer. Many decisions & events are held here also.
The tour took a portion of time to talk about the Queen Mary. She was married 3 times, her 2nd husband killed thier 1st son in hopes to become King, she was imprisoned for 19 years, & finally her cousin managed to have Mary executed so she could become Queen. Her life was like a soap opera!
We looked into going to Castle Sween while we were in Edinburgh. But it was expensive traveling, it would take 8 hours of traveling, & we wouldn't get to see other things. So we opted not to. We had seen enough Castles! But we did learn a lot about the Sweeney name. The original name is "Suibne". Then 3 sons branched off into different types of the name (Swiney, Sweeny, McSweeney, etc.). Castle Sween was attacked by the Stewart's. Later, the King of Edinburgh took the Castle & gave it to the McDonald's. The Sweeney's fled to Ireland to Donegal Castle, where they are buried. Later, the Campbell's took over the Castle, until it was set on fire & abandoned until it was put up as a tourist site. So "Sweeney" is Scottish!

Christina,
Enjoyed your pictures, they are great.
John came today and fixed Gene's tractor and mowed our hillside. In fact he had it done before we even knew he was here. He's a gem!

Hey, I forgot to tell you John made the front pageof the Oakland Paper this week. It's of him on his tractor with the flag flying from his planter. The caption is "Flying the Flag". Thought that was neat.
Laura is getting lunch tomorrow after Church, we'll miss you.
